Mike Greensill plays Great Tunes

A New "Home" Recording Project

In my dotage I'm appreciating the art of the great tune writers more and more, usually much more than my attempts to improvise over them! I love this quote from that famous saxophonist Paul Desmond, "Sometimes the best chorus I play is the melody." So I'm setting out to record solo lots of my favorite songs. This is all happening in my living room here in St Helena, on my lovely Yamaha C7.?

Here are a few tracks to be going on with, eventually there will be a whole extended album or two that will be available for download and streaming.

Sometimes I Wonder What I'm Doing Here

This is a song without words, by the great film composer David Raksin - think Laura

Blackbird - Here There and Everywhere

Two of my favorite Beatles Songs. The Mozarts of Rock'n Roll.

 I Love My Wife

by Cy Coleman/Michael Stewart. A beautiful waltz from the show of the same name.

 Why Do I Love You

by Jerome Kern/Oscar Hammerstein. One of the best melody writers, this is Kern from "Showboat"

 Love Walked In

by George and Ira Gershwin. Loved messing with the harmony on this Gershwin classic.

Mike brings his many years of accompanying experience to bear in exploring, in detail, the in's and out's of the accompanist's art as it applies to the performance of the "Great American Songbook".
